Comment:

this is digital (10101). this is a tape i made for matt haynes, because if it weren't for him i wouldn't be seeing trembling blue stars tonight in cleveland. unfortunately when you make a tape for the guy who WAS sarah records, you end up making strange tapes (how did elton john make it on here?) anyway, the title comes from the fact that matt posted on the shinkansen site that he heard that "cleveland does indeed rock, which was rather what [he] was afraid of." props to anyone who can identify the three northeast ohio bands on this tape (especially if your name ISN'T rob conroy.)

lol You knew I'd know those. Hey man, *nothing* wrong with that Elton John song... it's an absolute classic (even if I can't stand him at this point). And this is one krazy kool mix, dear Fundak.

"Hello everybody how y'all tonight? This is Alan Freed, the ole' King of the Moondog-ers and it's time again for another one of your favorite Rock-n-Roll sessions as you enjoy...THE MOONDOG SHOW ! (intro to Ian Hunter's "Cleveland Rocks"..which was originally titled "England Rocks").

that rules g.a.b. and to everyone--please don't take that i hate cleveland--i don't. it's my home. but the cleveland everyone sees on tv is not the wonderful city i live in. so i guess it does rock...but not for the reasons that the city marketers would have you believe...(and if you don't believe me, let me show you around the city some time...)

Since I have never been to Cleveland nor is it on my list of places to visit, I am not able to speak on it's behalf. All I can attest to is the output of music from the city. Considering that most of the folks that hail from Cleveland got the hell out, might be reason to question the validity of Ian Hunter's statement. I think he is the only one who has paid homage to the city with the exception of Chrissie Hynde and she painted a pretty bleak picture.

mm, modern lovers. i drool - nay, swoon - nay, rejoice over anything jonathan richman. because it is always a good thing. i was in one ohio city once.. it was absolutely beautiful, but i don't know how hard it rocked. it's built into a hill. and i saw my first real live junkyard dog there (the preceding junkyard dogs had of course been stuffed. ha haha)

I've never been to Cleveland, or even Ohio for that matter--hell, I'm lucky if they even let me cross the street. I can say that everyone here loves your mix. It's got all the essential ingrediants we've come to expect in a Brandt Fundak mix. Hold me closer Tony Danza.

Awesome mix, as usual. Unfortunately, I can't tell you who the 3 NE Ohio bands are, nor have I ever been to Ohio. But I do know that Mark Kozelek (of Red House Painters) was born (somewhere) in Ohio - and he pretty much infers that he's glad to have gotten out. Speaking of Elton John - did you read the recent article about him in Uncut? He pretty much says that anything he did after, 1976(?) or so, is crap, with a capital C (but is proud of most things before then, like Tiny Dancer, which I love as well).

oh my gawd... why is it that cleveland all ways trys to take credit for things it did not have anything to do with... two akron bands could overshadow every band to ever come out of cleveland (Devo, Chrissie Hynde) what has cleveland given music? michael stanely? just what i thought... oh yeah and the final ohio band is.... CHURCHBUILDER of course.
