Comment:
thanks to everyone who left the inspiring comments when i posted the first side of this tape. :) i've finally finished it - ha hahha - i feel like i should be giving shout outs to everyone who's supported me through this harrowing ordeal. - this tape took me months, what with procrastination and misplacing and starting over and all that.. but, boy, if i'd been handed a tape like this when i first started getting into sixties pop i'm sure it wouldn't have taken me so long to really appreciate it. - superstars: the love generation, episode 6, cowsills, beau brummels, merry go round, five americans, brian hyland.. sigh. i couldn't find my paul revere album. that's why they're not on here. and.. i love the two beatles songs so much, 'i will' is my absolutely favourite song by them, & i figured it's kind of alright to let two beatles songs sneak on there.Feedback:
Great mix touching of sunshine pop. The melodic, harmony-drenched music, both "soft" and other, a la The Association, The Beach Boys, The Millennium, Sagittarius, The Yellow Balloon, The Free Design and many others. These groups (as well as such key sunshine pop auteur/producers as Brian Wilson, Curt Boettcher and Gary Zekely) have received a lot of attention lately, particularly from Japanese "soft rock" connoisseurs. Nice that you used a track from the great Ray Davies produced Turtles album-"Turtles Soup". All I can say now is I need a Coke-a-cola and a smile.
I think it turned out quite nice, Jaime. Good job.
Awesome. Can we trade? :-)
this looks really really tasty (really).
amazing jaime...you'll have another of your mixes listed as a favorite of mine. and to rob conroy: if i was going to be in love with ANYONE on this site, it would be jaime. i mean, have you seen the stuff she's put up here?!
Brandt: I was kidding you, obviously, about the "love" thing on the other mix. And hell yeah, jaime's stuff is lovely.
wait - what's going on? i don't want any fist fights on MY mix comment board ;) thanks alot everyone for the comments - i was listening to sagittaruis today, nearly kicking myself for forgetting about them! gr. oh well. yay. and i gave it to jon last night (that's the person i'd originally begun it for) and he was pleased as pop! although i made a copy of my original and the copy cuts off at the end of both ending tracks. anybody else annoyed by the inconsistencies on mixtape length??!
i am totally annoyed by those inconsistancies! why is that every mix i make has like a minute left on the tape but my best of TBS tape didn't have enough room for Farewell to Forever? the injustice of it all!
ahh, sixties pop. this is a very good selection i must say! i was skeptical until i saw a kinks song and then i was bought!!! lots of very very lovely stuff here.
This looks wonderful Jaime. I'm only familiar with about half of it. Add my name to the potential trade list. I just bought a used Cowsills record (my favorite record store was having a 50 percent off vinyl sale!) with a great gatefold pic of the boys eating a hearty breakfast. I also have the same dubbing problem as you. I can have two identical tapes, and the one that gets dubbed always gets cut off at the end. I've learned to leave about ten seconds of space at the end of a tape if I know I'm going to be dubbng it.
Actually (Jamie, Ion & others), you probably need to leave more than 10 seconds at the end of the tape if you're gonna be dubbing it - see, the original tape s t r e t c h e s when played (or being recorded) so most likely you're gonna need something like 20-25 seconds or so at the end. I found this out with the tape I made this weekend - I only left about 10 seconds after the sodastream track, and it cut off with about 15 seconds left of the song on my dubbed version! bummer.
Oh Sue, you're so smart. (Sorry Jaime. Is fawning allowed on your mix comment board?)
Nice mix...maybe time to invest in a burner and end all those taping problems??
you know what sue? i SUSPECTED that! see, i figured it must have stretched a bit, as i was working on it in increments - then when i put the other on at high speed dubbing it just didn't work. hm-m-m! (but grr all the same) - i do have a cd burner but not hooked up to my stereo, and as a lot of this was vinyl, i couldn't put it to cd. i might try in the future though. yes fawning is allowed. ;)
Actually, Jaime and Ion, I didn't figure it out until a few months back, when I complained to my husband about it, and he filled me in - and he doesn't even make mixes! (note to Ion - he said making mixes is not something for him, so therefore, don't expect anything from him on here. ever.)
i wonder if copying it in real time would make any difference, in quality and stretching.. i always put it in dub mode, i ought to try it the other way once
jaime, this mix is wonderful, would you be willing to make me a copy of it? i don't know what you'd want me to make for you, cause i think you already have all the britpop stuff that i have as well. :)
