Comment:
This is how it's gonna look for the next few comps, folks: a few top 40 hits, a few hip-hop cuts and lots of indie stuff. Of course, the best thing about this comp is the cut from the 'Repo Man' soundtrack ("Bad Man"- "Hey, guess how many suits I got? Guess how many pair of shoes? Guess how many ties? Shit, I dunno, shut up..."). That, and Minnesotans representin' (Prince, the 'Mats, the Huskers). Oh yeah, and RUN-D.M.C. more or less changing hip-hop forever.UPDATE, 12-18-02: RUN-D.M.C. has since been shifted to 1986 (yes, you guessed it - that Aerosmith thing they did), and the Meat Puppets have sort of disappeared (it was them or the UTFO-Roxanne feud, and the Kirkwood Brothers sadly did not measure up), hence the 7 Seconds-inspired retitling. And man, there's a lot of revenge on this mix.
Feedback:
and this is the year I was born in...not bad, not bad at all.
I loved 'Repo Man' when it came out - although, at the time, I think my fave cut from it (the soundtrack) was J. Richman's 'Pablo Picasso'
i never thought i would live to see the day when whodini and new model army would share space on the same mix. just thinking about "the freaks come out at night" and "friends" makes me smile really big. can't wait to see what other awesome juxtapositions come up in this series. great job.
Hey Rob, you're right - I must have just remembered that he did the song originally - hey, I was a wee lass when the movie came out ;)
Let's hear it for the Minnesotans! Excellent mix and a great series.
I don't know *how* this all seems to gel so well, but... fuck. Color me impressed.
