Comment:

Wow, what a year for hip-hop. There's L.L. Cool J, before movie stardom, MC Ricky D before he was (better known as) Slick Rick, Marley Marl and MC Shan before they raised the ire of BDP, and Double Dee and Steinski before insane cut-and-mix collage was the norm. There's also the Smiths- face it, you can't have a mid '80s comp without them, seeing as how everything they released back then made every single British music critic's end of year best-of list. And college rock continues to whomp ass, whether serious (Sonic Youth) or ridiculous (Camper Van Beethoven, Dead Milkmen).

UPDATE, 12-18-02: No more Dead Milkmen, better J&MC and Tom Waits songs, and WE DON'T NEED NO WATER LET THE MOTHERFUCKER BURN.

i mean right before his verse dougie fresh goes
"slick rick...

but i could be wrong. great mix.

Nah, you're right... but I think he was credited primarily as Ricky D back then. But to avoid further confusion and/or making myself look stupid, I'm gonna go back in and delete that.

Awesome, once again. The Smiths were once my fave band, probably starting in 84 or 85 or so (I think I'm showing my age, but who gives a toss?).

I've really been enjoying these comps, Nate. Amazing how you're able to hit key tracks from so many genres every year & still make the mixes work. Special thanks for the Naked Raygun track. Like Sue, I think I'm showing my age.
