Slick AOR — the kind in which synth and guitar form a glorious alliance that defined the production values of the '80s — was arguably perfected by Loverboy, who rose like a phoenix from the clubs of Alberta to repaint the U.S. in shades of gold and platinum. Hard and anthemic, the outfit's best tracks ("Working for the Weekend," "Turn Me Loose") sounded even better live. In the year 2000, bassist Scott Smith was lost at sea, presumed dead, but the band plays on in his honor. This fistful of Loverboy hits seals the legend.
