Comment:

This tape was going to be named "My Headphones/They Save My Life" after a line in the Björk song that starts off this tape. It was going to be headphone music. Then I got all weirded out because I kept thinking about the trailer for The Blair Witch Project that I saw at the movies last night. It's, hands down, the scariest movie trailer I've ever seen. It's very good. Very subtle. And still, I'm freaked out. So I decided to make a tape to take my mind off of it, but I didn't feel like paying attention enough to make a tape that qualifies as headphone music, so instead I made this one, which is good, but not all headphone music. and i'm rambling, so goodbye

Now that I have a copy of this mix for my very own, I can say with certainty that it really is excellent. What I love most is that it's very familiar to me, yet very new. Side 1 is like a mix I could have made myself -- it's like we're sharing a brain! And side 2 is totally unlike any mix I could ever have made... despite knowing some of the artists I didn't know all the songs, and just never would have thought to put it together that way. But it works so well. My favorite moments: the juxtaposition of On a Plane/Get Up/Satellite of Love, the inclusion of Famous Blue Raincoat, and the Radiohead song. Inspired!!! (But no, not headphone music.)
