Comment:

During a tragically abbreviated career, Jaco Pastorius redefined the role of the bass in jazz and pop. Not content to use the instrument as a rhythmic anchor, Jaco took it into the spotlight and off into spheres previously unimaginable. The title track from Pat Metheny's [i]Bright Size Life[/i] shows a 23-year-old prodigy, while "Continuum" is the work of a master — just seven years later. And his contribution to Weather Report's modern standard, "Birdland," is massive.
