Comment:
Heading into the home stretch- while this was supposed to be the year "Electronica" broke, there's not much of it on this volume- there's a more pervasive mood exhibited by artists as diverse as Missy Elliott, Radiohead, Bob Dylan and Built to Spill: moody, languid, atmospherics that could at turns be playful, foreboding, malevolent or mournful. Cornershop and Sleater-Kinney step up to ramp up the energy, and Lifter Puller joins the Lyres in the Obscure Ass-Whomp Rock Song canon, but on the whole this is pure midnight listening. Fill the room with smoke and slip on the headphones.UPDATE 12-19-02: Damn, Busta-bus segues pretty nice into Stereolab.
Feedback:
Me, I'm Superfly, I'm Super Duper Fly...
ya that bts song is one of my all time faves, and bittersweet symphony is a guilty pleasure of mine...
Nice way to capture the electronica explosion without using the obvious choice, Prodigy's "Firestarter" (Great track, though, don't get me wrong). Missy Elliot pretty much made '97 for me. Good work.
all killer, no filler
er. I'd hardly call Firestarter electronica (re: Erin H). Yes, I'm quite a.r. , but hey. Some good songs here.
Good stuff.
