I am a Beatlemaniac. Or maybe I was. After going off to college, and doing the most important thing there, learning about new music, the Beatles are still my fave, but with other groups, Radiohead, Pavement, Modest Mouse and the like in very close second, third,,,,. But I had to do this mix to see what it might have been like if they had narrowed down the White album to one LP. If it were really this narrowed down, the White Album would move from number 8 on my top albums of all time list to a definite number 1 skipping over greats from the Beatles Abbey Road and Revolver.

You're a braver man than me, trying to cut the White Album down to one disc... especially ending it with "I Will", interesting choice of song to follow "Revolution 9". Though to be sure, I suppose it makes about as much sense as following it with "Good Night"...

The Beatles are still the best band of all-time... and I dunno, I have no desire to delete anything from the White Album. And "Revolver" and "Rubber Soul" are my two favorite albums of all-time, followed by the White Album.

I think Revolution 9 is the ONLY track I don't like on the White Album. Influential? Definately. Incisive? Sure, I guess so. But I skip it every time. Aside from that, though, this is a great run-down of one of their best albums.

This could be a new subcategory - Good Double Albums Become Better Single Albums. Who among hasn't wished for "classic" twofers by the Pumpkins, G'NR, Zep, Pink Floyd, the Cure, ICP, whomever - to be less self-indulgent?

While I would never get rid of anything from the White Album, I will admitt there are some tracks I tend skip over unless I have a decent amount of time. Not a bad shorter version at all.

This is a good idea and I agree with most of your choices. However, the leftovers would still make a pretty tasty lunch.

great idea - Word Magazine in the UK did their own version of a single album version of the white album last month. You are about 3 years ahead of your time!

You have "Birthday" on this mix?!

Worst Beatles song ever

Obviously, IMO, other songs from the White album like "Martha My Dear" and "Goodnight" are worse. :)

Other Beatles songs from other albums that I also think are worse than "Birthday" would be "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Octopus's Garden".

Any other thoughts?

Great idea for a mix. I don't agree with all of the inclusions or omissions (what? No "Why Don't We Do It in the Road?"), but I do with most of them. I have often said that if the "white album" had been only one platter that it'd be the best Beatles record made. Crap like "Piggies" just brings the album down.
