Comment:

The beginning/end of a new/old century is given a soundtrack both apropos and surprising: who woulda guessed in 1973 that we'd usher in the 20th century with bands that sound not unlike like stuff done by Big Star (Dandy Warhols) and the Kinks (Badly Drawn Boy) back then? Probably more people than would anticipate turntablism (Kid Koala), jungle (Roni Size), electro (Ladytron) and Motown-gone-noir (Broadcast). Hell, I'll take Outkast over flying cars and robot maids any day.

UPDATE 12-19-02: There's still no room on '98 for one of those other 12 Rods songs, as much as I lurve "Faster Than You". But I managed to cram in a whole mess of things, including songs that weren't caught onto by most (myself included) until a year or two later - "Main Offender" and "Internal Wrangler" are both from 2000. (Ladytron is moving to '02.)

Great mix for a great year, although I must say that "Separation Anxieties" is absolute shit compared to 12Rods' first record. -mes
