Comment:

John Lennon wanted to produce them. Dusty Springfield liked them so much she asked them to write a song for her. Since their demise, the Zombies influence has continued to grow. "She's Not There", has been covered countless times, by everyone from Santana to the UK Subs, yet it is the remarkable original that we all go back to, as fresh sounding today as the day it was recorded, thirty-something years ago. Building upon the standard R&B and rock'n'roll influences, the Zombies introduced class and sophistication into a genre not noted for either, and in the most natural, unselfconscious way possible. And the songs were lent an extra dimension by the voice of Colin Blunstone, and Rod Argent's keyboard work.
The band only released two full length albums, the second of which was Odessey and Oracle, a critically acclaimed album of exquisite delight. The album failed to chart in the UK and the group disbanded. They only got a US release after badgering from Al Kooper. Ironically the album produced the song "Time Of The Season" which charted in the US. The success of "Time Of The Season" resulted in the band coming under enormous pressure to reform. This they resisted. Even though an Ameircan firn had bogus Zombies touring with the equally bogus Animals and a legal action was invlolved to halt this. Colin Blunstone would release some solo effort with help from Zombies Argent and Chris White. He also lent his voice to numerous session work, most notably that of the Alan Parson's Project. Rod Argent would later form the band Argent which produced such seventies hits as "God Gave Rock and Roll To You" and "Hold YOur Head Up"

I wish there could be more than 26 letters in the alphabet! Must have been a tough choice picking between the Zombies and 90s metal band Zebra, but the better band clearly won.

The Zombies are one of the most stunning bands of all-time and this is a fine compilation of a lot of their best work. I'm pleased to see that you took a similar approach to the one I took on my comp... and no, that's not saying that you ripped me off...

No Rob,I didn' rip you off, nor did I take your comment to mean so.I will admit I looked at your fine mix to see if I forgot anything. In dealing with The Zombies, you are dealing with a band that put out only two albums in thier lifetime and a number of great singles, so it is hard to deviate from the any other approach really. I must admit, lately judging by the mixes submitted--Zombies mania seems in full force. Did I miss something? What artist/release/movement/movie spearheaded this? Not that I am complaining. I just feel as though I missed out.

This is absolutely lovely, Tom. I also would like to know why all the Zombies mania is coming from - not that I'm complaining - the more the merrier. I first really got into them after hearing one of their records being played in a record store, after I asked who was making the wonderful noise coming out of the speakers. I think that was 7 or 8 yrs ago.

I must say, I see the mixes of all you kind people and you are inspirational. There are tons of great folks out here opening my mind every day. Kick starting my brain and lets keep it coming.

As 2002 rapidly approaches and I sit by my window with a nice hot chocolate and let my mind go wild with worry about so many of the dreadful things the world has spewed us, I come down to this: while I believed, even recently, that the toughest tasks on earth were things like attaining world peace, curing cancer and a.i.d.s., and keeping the Twins viable for a few more subpar years, in all actuality the toughest and most taxing (thus most praiseworthy) task was surely narrowing the 2 albums and buncha singles by the Zombies down to one tidy wittle mix. Perhaps the folks here would like to chuck you into a pile of hay and surround you with bearded men and donkeys. Then again, maybe I'm just a dick.

Favorite rainy day activity: Playing "Odessey
and Oracle" and "Days of Future Passed"
back-to-back. Hide the knives and forks.
