Championed as “a guiding light for world-flavored electronic music” by [i]Los Angeles New Times[/i], Quango Records’ history reaches back to 1995, when Island Records head Chris Blackwell (a man whose past and current associates include Bob Marley and U2) came across a mix tape by Los Angeles DJ Bruno Guez. The legendary label mogul appreciated Guez’s aesthetic and a label was born. With backing first from Blackwell’s Island label and later from Palm Pictures, Guez has made Quango a global groove stronghold and elevated the likes of Zero 7 and Bittersweet to positions in the electronica elite.
