Comment:
Part one of my "real '80s" series that I began today based upon some prior conversations with Mr. Fundak (and also based in part by a mix that he did a few months ago, as well as lo-fi's "Our band could be your life" mix). Instead of taking the entire alphabet and mixing it into one disc, however, and thus potentially leave out key 80's artists, I decided to group them alphabetically. This volume gathers artists from "A" (Aztec Camera) to "J" (Jane's Addiction); I'm assuming this is going to be three volumes, but who knows. At this point in the series, I'm not including any CDRs, just purchased CDs; however, by the third volume, I have a feeling CDRs will be worked in to flesh out the last installment. Title from the Huskers song, as they're my favorite band of the 80's.Feedback:
i love that birthday party song.
Love that Huskers tune. I defy anyone to name a better band than Husker Du during the mid-80s
amazingly, this is much better than anything i can whip up, and unfortunately cobb, i will have to defy you--in my estimation, the best band of the mid 80s was the Smiths.
I back Cobb up on this one 100% (unless you count Elvis Costello & the Attractions), with only the Minutemen and the Descendents giving them any competition... apologies to Mr. Marr and company, whom I like very much.
Fine selections all around Rob. Put me down for Sonic Youth as fave mid-80s vibe.
Lovely, Rob. Mozza and Marr for me, mate.
Rob, you have absolutely outdone yourself. I adore Big Black, and the Kraftwerk cover is one of my favorite songs from that album. This mix is brilliant.
Where the hell's the Depeche Mode!?
Nice job--especially as you've included the Clean. No room for the Chameleons?
I dunno about the Chameleons, Marty, as I had only a passing familiarity (read: I heard them in a friend's dorm room a couple of times in '89/'90) with them and they never struck me one way or another... As far as the "no room" question, this series is set up to include a song from *every* band that I own who released an album in the '80s, so that wouldn't apply. Thanks for the compliment(s), though, good sir, and happy holidays. :-)
can i marry this series? no, really!
Excellent mix this is. (if i cant marry this mix, ill settle for Calvin Johnson. Please and thank you :)

Your musical tastes are as wonderful as mine--- plus some. :)
great mix. i dig with both of my thumbs up high in the air as if i were hailing god's taxi cab. i remember when my sister first played me big black when i was little...i think i was five at the time, but i'm not too sure. it scared the shit out of me. i loved it after a while, though. and oh yeah, i also love the big black mix. rad stuff, i tell you! and mad props for making a donovan mix. thank you for your comments about my i hate prog rock mix. makes me feel nice inside. appreciated whole-heartedly.
