Comment:
For whatever reasons, in High School I only listened to rap music. This was from '88 - '92... so I missed out on some crucial stuff. While all my friends were tuning in to the local college radio station and MTV's 120 Minutes, I was bobbing my head to EPMD and Special Ed... damn. So, this mix is my attempt to travel back in time. This CD evolved from a cassette mix given to me by a friend & classmate the summer after we graduated. That cassette not only turned me on to most of these bands, but it completely reshaped my musical tastes. I never get tired of listening to this one... any suggestions for tracks that can be added to this mix are welcome!Feedback:
Rap circa '88-'92 was cool, don't be ashamed! 3 Feet High & Rising, The Low End Theory, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, the Great Adventures of Slick Rick, Ghetto Music, Strictly Business, Paul's Boutique, the Biz Never Sleeps, Step into the Arena, Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde-- damn, now THAT would be a great mix! Not that yours is bad!... great call on Trip Shakespeare. Suggestions?... hmm... check out Matthew Sweet's "Girlfriend" album from 1991.
Very lovely.
Nice mix.
From the late '80's-early '90's time frame, I highly recommend the following:
"Puzzle" by Dada [Dizz Knee Land was the modern rock radio hit off this CD, but the CD is a great piece of power pop in it's own right. The band fell apart much too fast.]
Also: [mentioned earlier, "Paul's Boutique"
from the Beastie Boys and "It's a shame about Ray" from the Lemonheads and a vastly underated "Naked" from the Talking Heads.
Ahhh..memories...
