Comment:

For my best friend (who I have to pick up at O'Hare in about 8 hours) for Christmas. She told me that I've made her more discriminating about what music she listens to. I put the Jimmy Eat World song because tomorrow she'll be flying out of Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix (I also edited it down to 6 minutes). My whole goal with this tape was for her to look at the track listing and say "Who the hell is this?" about every artist. With one or two exceptions, I think I just about did it. The title comes from Jeff Buckley's "Morning Theft"

I know most of the people who frequent this site will know everyone on here, she probably only knows Weezer and maybe Fountains of Wayne. So this is to help her become a little more of an indie rocker like the rest of us ;)

jolly good (though the UK has a whole lot more going for it than ocean colour scene, stereophonics, james and rialto. yuk).

I think Ocean Color Scene are a highly underated outfit.. but the Stereophonics, James and Rialto are all pretty terrible, I think the Super furry's would have been how i'd have done it.. or pulp.

There's nothing wrong with Stereophonics, James and Rialto. They're better than a lot of bands out there. When you start slamming those kinds of britrock bands then you're getting heavy into music snobdom. Think of the music in the world today. Any britpop would be better than what's on the radio. Sorry, felt the need to defend. Plus, what the hell has My Vitriol and Muse done? Paid their dues...I think not. They're just less commercial.

Any Brit rock IS better than a lot of the crap on US radio. I picked the Brits I did because I thought she'd like something a little more upbeat. Even if she IS more discriminating, I think Pulp is a bit over her head yet. I'm taking baby steps ;)

well as james has been my favourite band for almost 8 years, AND i've got exquisite taste in music ;) so i go along with fitter here. --- anyway - *good choices* it's kind of always a gamble with people who are kind of open but still a bit timid. bravo!! in addition to looking back at the mix going 'who the hell are they?' she might associate it with her trip and listen to it over and over -- so whenever she hears those songs it'll take her back to her trip. yay! ok. the end. :)

"better than a lot of stuff on the radio" is a pretty inane way to defend music.
