Comment:
I was once accused (along with a stack of other people) by someone on a message board somewhere of not liking music which is popular. (The person in question is webmaster for Australian ska band Area 7, and had a beef with several people at said board because they don't like Area 7. But enough of him.) My response to that sort of accusation is that I have nothing against popular music as such, I only lament that so much stuff which is shit becomes popular. Otherwise there's nothing inherently wrong with liking stuff that is basically mainstream. After all, how can a person who likes the Beatles have a problem with pop music? There's a time and place for pretty much everything on the Russell stereo, and there are times when the desire for a bit of good pop music overrides the need for more obscure stuff like GYBE! or Trail of Dead. Here's a sample of some things I consider to be good pop, spiced with a bit of less well-known but still fairly pop stuff.Feedback:
Very nice. I'm with you on not liking Area 7 though - a couple of weeks back, my local public radio station (which I usually love - rtr-fm) had area 7 as the feature album of the week - which I wasn't too happy about, but hey, what can you do.
So Freaky...The Cars' "Just What I Needed" is airing on a local station I'm listening to... just as I logged in to review this mix. Anyway, I'm diggin' on a lot of these tunes.
Few weeks ago at a club I frequent the DJ was inspired enough to subject an indifferent crowd to the razormaid remix of Monsoon's "Ever So Lonely". I was the only one who danced.
