Comment:

Ah, the year is over and what a year. These are my picks for the best hip hop of the year...axelrod w/ ras kass is so funky it doesn't even need a beat, i think i ripped off that line from Spin or someone like that...daylight was my favorite track on labor days and the album didn't disappoint...i got the greyboy album for free and was pleasantly surprised, i highly recommend it...broken tape decks i took from the big broke l.a. ep that i got this summer, does anyone know if their full length is out yet?...planet asia spits a nice verse on this dubby song from the pistols...lbdas with a bunch of cats rip up a song that has a very nice verse by the man chali2na...clint eastwood was a great song, but i think i've heard it too much (i used the radio version from the single for time constraints, so it's minus a fuck)...get ur freak on, i never really liked this song when i first heard it, but i then i got the tomb raider soundtrack and i just loved the beat with missy elliott vocals replaced by nelly furtado...saul williams cd, "amethyst rock star" was one of the best,on "penny for a thought" saul gets closer to rapping then his usual spoken word, which is also tres cool...blackalicious "make you feel that way" is a nice love song that i got for free on vinyl,it's from the album blazing arrow which will be in stores next year..."vision of art" was perhaps co flow's last song, very nice...."blacklist" was one of the few songs on prefuse 73 with vocalists and it was a nice one, that cd is highly recommended...freestyle fellowship returned in 2001 and they still have it...rubber and glue is a self deprecating joke of a track and it works...ghost drops another story rhyme on maxine....princess gets beth orton for the chorus on a trip-hop sounding beat, the album "is" should be in stores early 02 here in the states....can ox got lots of press this year and it was well deserved, the f-word was their best track...pack animal is from "Tags of the Times 3" on Mary Joy Recordings which i bought because it had an aesop rock song which i didn't have, well anyhow this introduced me to the spoken word style of buck 65 and i love it (i just ordered a couple of his cd's, the guy's tracks are all untitled)....atmosphere, my pick for album of the year....happy new year everyone.

Saul Williams' "Amethyst Rock Star" album was my choice for the number one album of the year (all genres). Great selection. As for the rest - I absolutely despise the Missy/Nelly track but the rest is pretty sweet.
