Comment:

Before I go any further, I'd like to clear up any potential misconceptions about this mix: THIS MIX HAS ABSOLUTELY NO RARITIES OR SURPRISES ON IT. It was compiled for a friend of mine who is in the process of re-evaluating Nirvana after refusing to embrace them during their heyday. As it happens, however, this is *close* to what I'd compile for myself, anyway, so I thought it was worth posting. At some point in the coming year, I'll probably do a second volume with b-sides, import single tracks, bonus tracks and comp tracks. In the meantime, this will do. My only real regret here is that I was unable to use the studio "All Apologies" due to its link with the phenomenal (but incredibly lengthy) "Gallons of Rubbing Alcohol..." at the end of my copy of In Utero. Happy New Year, everyone.

This looks good. I don't know how I've gone through life without owning a single Nirvana album. Don't forget the Credit To The Nation remix for volume two! Just kidding.

Excellent. All the best ones. But where's Come As You Are?

There is a version of In Utero that puts Gallons Of Rubbing Alcohol... straight after All Apologies, indexed separately - it might be Europe-only - the catalogue number is different (God,what a nerd I am!)

Yeah, my version is odd (I think it's Australian)... it lists "Gallons" as track 13 on the case, but blends it and "Apologies" together as a 31-minute monster on the disc itself. Weird.

Rob, you need some software to solve problems like hidden tracks which run directly on from the last track like that. I tend to use Goldwave a fair bit for tweaking tracks. Good-looking mix, too.

If you really want to give your friend the purest introduction to Nirvana, then I'd leave off all the covers, add 'Dive' and 'Been A Son' from Incesticide, and the live 'Spank Thru' from Muddy Banks of Wishkah. And Come As You Are HAS to be on there if this is for a guy relatively new to Nirvana. Otherwise props etc.

Well, I wanted to give him an introduction to Nirvana that *I'd* want to listen to, so...

James is right...I use Goldwave for all of my CD projects. The freeware version has pretty much everything you need.
