Comment:

the title comes from the beth orton song. this all ended in july and 'these days are darker than they've ever looked before' in the words of samiam. i am home from school for two months and every damn place in this city reminds me of him. this is supposed to be my catharsis mix, but how it works remains to be seen.

This isn't entirely up my alley (vive la difference), but I recognized the title from my absolute favorite Beth Orton song. Everybody seems to be nursing heartbreak these days. Tough it out, it gets better (at least that's what I'm hoping).

sweet avenue - i almost put your namesake on this tape, but then i wondered if 'sea anemone' might not be better. and david gray's 'this year's love' and 'please, forgive me' were close runners-up, as well. perhaps they should put a sub-file on the site for break-up mixes since the majority of us seem to sympathise with each others'.

Magnetic Fields song on side 2 rules. Mary Lou Lord does a great cover of it, too. You should check her out.

how this mix could be any cooler is beyond me. the smiths, mag fields and eels 1-2-3 punch at the end of side one is amazing. very, very sharp.

in case anyone cares, and i suppose they don't, but that's irrelevant...anyhow, i drove by his house the other night and you know what? it didn't hurt. not a bit. damn, it felt good. ladies and gentleman, consider me back in the game.

Special kudos to your Of Montreal, Magnetic Fields, Bright Eyes, Elliott and Get Up Kids (one of three songs that I still like by them) picks. :-)

joe, you know very well how i feel about masochism(wink wink). as some chick on moc says, 'i need an s to my m.' not that we need to discuss that here. that can be talked about over a brew or four. p.s. you want any help with your birthday bash? i throw a mean party(ie. cj, my cocktail party, etc)

Ooh. Of Montreal, The Smiths, Elliot Smith, AND The Magnetic Fields all in one mix. Yummers and very appropriate choices for a break up mix. Nice job.

I saw Elvis Costello perform recently; he closed the show (as usual, apparently, on this current tour) with "I Want You". It actually made me cry. The lines "the truth can't hurt you it's just like the dark" and "it scares you witless but in time you see things clear and stark" are tattooed around my right ankle.
