Comment:
Yes... the second edition of my collection of personal favorites of... my favorite band in the entire world. I know I'm going to get slammed for not including more from "LAL", but, truth be told, I'm just not into alot of the songs that are considered 'classics' on that record. For example, "Young Man Blues" just never has done a single thing for me. Not that I can do better or anything, just not in my personal faves pile. Anyways... this one documents 1970-1975, and the next one is going to be the most challenging for me. This one was pretty difficult, though. I mean, it nearly killed me to leave "Bargain" off, but I had to do it in the interest of space, you know?Feedback:
You have "Baba O'Riley" on there, so you really can't go that wrong. I understand about "Young Man Blues" though, maybe someday I'll feel it, but I've just never "got" that song. I would imagine this would be a difficult one, they released so many great songs in this period. Especially on the "Who's Next" and "Who By Numbers" albums alone. Then you have to select tracks from "Quadrophenia". I think you did a good job though, considering the limitations. Mine would probably be different, but that's just me. I probably would of had more from "The Who By Numbers" like tracks "Blue Red And Grey" and "Imagine A Man". Good work on including "Naked Eye" live though, a seriously overlooked classic. Maybe I'm off my Who tonight, but what do you mean by "LAL"?
Well, there will be a few more from "By Numbers" on the next volume. And... "LAL" is the abbreviation for "Live At Leeds", brother. Thanks for the props on "Naked Eye". If there was any justice in the world, that song would get the amount of airplay that "Pinball Wizard" does.
Ah...okay "Live At Leeds"...I thought you were referring to a song. Yeah, I could see you getting slammed for that, but that's what mixes are all about, taking risks and just making something orignal, no apologies. I might have slid that version of "Substitue" in there, but hey, it's your mix. Good to read more songs from "By Numbers" will be coming on the next volume. Good luck though, it certainly will be difficult.
hey hey...i definitely would have led the tape off with "heaven and hell" from live at leeds, but that's just me. personal taste dictates different things, of course. but i highly value your who's next and quadrophenia choices ;)
It makes me so happy to see you put "Sea And Sand" on there. It's one of my favourites off of Quadrophenia. That's no mean feat either, Quadrophenia's got to be only my favourite album ever.
