Comment:
this is digital (101100). a long overdue mix for teapin. this marks what is probably the last of the digital mixes on cassette tape, as i will be receiving my new computer as soon as today and will have CD burning capabilities. anyway, this mix is an amalgamation of my new found love of 60s psychedelic pop (love, pink floyd, usa), my love of 80s british indie music (TVPs, the times) and the movie the royal tenenbaums, which features music by some of the artists on the disc (okay, one of the artists on this disc) and is a very good movie indeed... [addendum: i realized after rob submitted his comment that i forgot to list one of the tracks--the syd barrett track on side two.]Feedback:
This is a cool finale to the digital cassette series and a fine mix in its own right (although you managed to include one of the only two songs on "Forever Changes" that don't make me want to explode with admiration). I'm sure teapin will seriously dig it.
yeah, in retrospect rob, i wish i had put "alone again or" "the good humor man he sees everything like this" but when i made the mix i had just purchased the record and wasn't that familiar with it. (although with my luck one of those songs is the other forever changes song you're not fond of...)
Nah, the other one is "Old Man", which I *want* to like more as I think Mr. Maclean is chronically underrated... those tunes are great. My two faves are "Live and Let Live" and "A House is Not a Motel", actually... unless you count the single "Your Mind and We Belong Together" at the end (which is my favorite Love tune).
Killer!!!!
Great mix. On the subject of "Forever Changes", I should first say that I have a genetic defect that makes it impossible for me to be in any way discerning about that album. I love every second of it. Despite that, I thought I'd weigh in with my unsolicited opinion re: fave track, which I would have to say is "You Set The Scene". I guess I'm a sucker for grandiose platitudes. And Brandt: Royal Tenenbaums indeed. Best movie I've seen since, uh, Rushmore(?).
Quality mix Brandt!! Particularly like the Davis, Shins, Zombies and VU. And the Royal Tenenbaums was the best movie I'd seen since Amile (sic, I'm sure). Genius none the less...
(does little dance of excitement and glee)
Ah, the end of an era *sighs as tears well up* I'll join your jump to the digital age as soon as I'm able to burn my vinyl onto CD's. Until then its C90 all the way. Oh yes, I love the mix too. I'm picturing teapin's "little dance of excitement and glee" and it's not a pretty sight.
Just great, Brandt. As for Love, I really, really like "andmoreagain" - I didn't at first, but then it grew on me with repeated listens. I think it's beautiful. In fact, I'm with Randy, in loving the entire thing. My other faves include "alone again or" and the "red telephone" among others, of course.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, re: the tape - you included my fave song (of the tape you made me) "la'hov"!
Excellent. FYI: after looking at your mixes, I've invested in 14 Iced Bears and Margo Guryan. I'm awaiting their arrival in the mail. I have a feeling I'll like them a lot.
brandt: your mixes consistently impress me. i still want to trade sometime, this is so excellent (that's one of my favorite syd barrett songs, and a super belle & sebastian track as well)
this rocks...love, love, love it. and the royal tenenbaums was my favorite movie this year, hands down. they're all over my mix as well. I just about dropped in the theater when Wes Anderson had that shot of Gwyneth getting off the bus with Nico's "These Days" playing, as that has been one of my all time favorites ever since I was a kid, thanks to my Mom and her record collection. i love groovy parents. and this mix
village_idiot: you lucky bastard! (in regards to the groovy parents)
hahaha...well, just the one. My father has an odd affinity with Xmas music...Bing Crosby and the like. oh, and Perry Como. who I guess would also fall under Xmas.
wow. thanks for all of the feedback. i was floored when i has 16+ messages in my box this morning. and for ion: C90 isn't going away for me--the digital series came about when my record player decided to break. but it is being taken in for repairs tomorrow. once it's back on its feet, i'll start making C90 mixes galore, just not using my annoying base 2 digital numbering system...
I'm happy to hear that I was wrong about thinking you were giving up on the C90s (and the C60s, C30s and C86s) Roll on brother trucker!
i've read a good portion of your mix lists and i'd like to take the opportunity to say that they are super rad. xox.
