Named after a Neil Young song, Powderfinger came barreling out of Brisbane in the late '80s on a wave of cover songs, and found their feet once Bernard Fanning — a vocalist possessing rare soul — had been installed as frontman. Breakthrough album [i]Double Allergic[/i] (1996), featuring the single "Pick You Up," marked the start of experiments in a cultured brand of melodic rock that would be perfected by the end of the century in standout tracks like "These Days."
