This tape is for Jim. Side one is a collection of Japanese pop sounds, the Shibuya scene. It is not for the casual music listener. The Japanese are avid music collectors and these tracks show their appreciation of a broad range of sounds from lounge music to James Bond soundtracks to twee Brit pop to the Velvet Underground. It could be a difficult listen, for, while they are definitely pop songs, they are the composed of strange sounds. Side two amends the situation: a collection of easily digested catchy powerpop and poprock tunes.
