"Little" Jimmy Scott — so known due to a genetic malfunction that kept him a pre-pubescent, both in stature and in vocal timbre — may be the most distinctive stylist in his genre since Billie Holiday. He's almost certainly the best singer you've never heard. By equal parts of both fate and design, he inhabits that uniquely New York scene that exists at the edge of jazz, pop, and cabaret music. The best place to start is his first recorded hit, "Everybody's Somebody's Fool," from 1950.
