Stones Originals - The World of the Rolling Stones
Comment:
For all that the Stones listened to the blues and black artists, it was a white boy from Lubbock, Texas, who provided one of their signature tracks: Charles Hardin Holley, better known as “Buddy.” Mick & Co. hacked the hiccups out of Buddy’s “Not Fade Away” (originally recorded by his band, the Crickets), implanted a bottom end, and made a beeline for the charts. Even further outside the blues pool, a jazzbo writer/performer named Bobby Troup, wrote “Route 66,” which both Nat King Cole and Chuck Berry rode up the charts before the Stones.
