Think you know the Byrds’ “Turn! Turn! Turn!”? Think again. We’ve got Pete Seeger’s original version, sounding far more like an Old Testament campfire song than the antiwar anthem it grew to be. Simon & Garfunkel’s first recording of “The Sounds of Silence” practically [i]was[/i] silent compared to the chart-topping remixed version you know. And enough of Crescent City jazz legend Kid Ory’s “Muskrat Ramble” is hiding in “I Feel Like I’m a Fixin to Die Rag” that Ory’s daughter sued Country Joe. These are the seeds that sprouted the flower power age’s defining moments.
