Comment:

When you fire up these carols for your Christmas celebration, even folks who haven’t been bitten by the classical-music bug will warm right up to them, because they’ve been a familiar part of everybody’s holiday season for as long as roasting chestnuts and sipping eggnog. “The First Noel” is one of the world’s most well known Christmas songs, and even if you’ve heard it from countless roving carolers, you haven’t experienced it until you’ve gotten the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s take on it. Likewise, “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen” is to Christmastime what the National Anthem is to ballgames, but the peerless piano of Debra Torok gives the timeless tune even more oomph. And you can almost see the snowflakes falling on the pines like Mother Nature’s own tinsel as the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields chorus joyfully journeys through the uplifting airs of “Ding Dong! Merrily On High.”
