Comment:
Disc 1 (Side 1) titled 'Chilling Out In Canada'Disc 2 (Side 2) titled 'Rocking Out In Canada'
Made these for a new friend from Australia who's visiting Canada for a year...went with lesser-known stuff than what most people would think of when thinking of Canada (Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Shania Twain, etc). I know the person well enough to know that they like folky kinda stuff but he loved Silverchair so some rock was in order as well. There are 3 covers on these mixes, anyone care to hazard a guess and/or name the original artists as well?
Finally, for the expected onslaught of Sloan fans wondering where their favorite band is...in my opinion they have about 3 good songs and are extremely over-rated, hence no inclusion here.
Feedback:
What, no Loverboy? :-)
Sorry, I know they were your favorite band!
Well, along with Lee Aaron and Helix
can't forget skinny puppy, godspeed you black emperor!(and thier side projects), david lynch (yes he's a musician too), dead voices on air, neko case and her boyfriends and leonard cohen!
Skinny Puppy = far to heavy for this guy, Godspeed = sorry, no room for an 18 minute track, David Lynch = Who cares?, DVOA = again, who cares? Neko Case = over-rated/under-talented, Leonard Cohen = God, but well known...hence my going with lesser-known stuff...plus, he is represented by Rufus doing Hallelujah.
Helix kicked ass! Lee Aaron unfortunately since she turned into a lounge singer licks ass.
I'll accept your challenge, Mr Holland, by indentifying the two covers that remain unnamed. Cry is a cover of Godley and Creme, and Lace and Pretty Flowers is a Willie P. Bennett song.
Good CanCon mix. Any room for Rheostatics or Hayden?

Actually....there are 4! My bad...anyone know the 4th one? (1st 3 are Hallelujah, Cry & Lace & Pretty Flowers)
As for the Rheostatics...not a fan...Hayden? Bores me to death I'm afraid...never got the point.
Since when is David Lynch Canadian? Hahaha, he's from Montana. But anywho, I see some pretentious posts here Geoff. You don't live up to your own words do ya?
Where's Alanis? Where's the barenaked ladies? Where's Jim Carrey? Where is grunge buried? Next to God?
Dude...if you had read my comments on the mix you'd see why!
Your other cover is Neil Young's Winterlong, covered by Emm Gryner, I'd presume. As for me, I dig the Pixies' version. Since the posts are fairly testy on this one, I'd say Emm Gryner's covers album made me reach for Strange Little Girls, which is saying very little...
Actually....Emm Gryner's song is called Summerlong, not Winterlong...nice effort though!?
The 4th cover is David Gogo covering Bob Dylan's Shooting Star.

'unbound' is a great RR track. my second choice would have been 'sonny got caught in the moonlight'. here's to the unsung canadians! !
Oooh, this kicks azz.
even a little bit of Canada is more than anyone needs.
