It's no coincidence that Mack 10's name channels that of a .45 caliber submachine gun. As one-third of the gangsta rap supergroup Westside Connection (alongside longtime collaborator Ice Cube and WC of Low Profile and WC and the Maad Circle) and a longtime leader in LA's beats and bullets scene, Mack 10 has always contrasted his silky flow and G-funk stroll with [i]Scarface[/i]-caliber stories of smoky gun barrels, body bags, and paper stacks. That's not to say he's a downer. Quite the contrary — like his seminal gangsta rap peers Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Mr. Cube, Mack 10 speaks of the streets but aims for the clubs with singles that beep, blip, and buzz ("W/S Foe Life," "Bow Down"), clap and crawl ("Backyard Boogie," "Only in California"), or bump, drop, and roll like a lowrider ("Gangsta Nation," "The Letter").
