At first, the rapid-fire rap-metal (three-fourths of Rage Against the Machine) and Black Sabbath-schooled grunge (former Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell) fusion of Audioslave seemed an uneasy combination, but it's worked out much better than anyone could've expected. So much so that the band has obliterated any side-project notions by selling millions of copies of their three albums in just five years. Our playlist boasts the mixologists at their very best, including the patchy, prickly turbulence of "Cochise," the mid-tempo malaise of "Like a Stone," the speed-demon riffs of "Your Time Has Come," and the denim/disco-ball crossbreeding of "Original Fire."
