The twelve songs that we've gathered for you on this edition of the List are choice cuts best suited for "stepping." For the unfamiliar, stepping is a full-body dance that has been a part of black fraternities and sororities for nearly a half-dozen decades. It's a tightly choreographed, complex approach to dance whose dynamic qualities (clapping hands, stomping feet) have manifested itself in all realms of black musical culture. Films like Spike Lee's 1988 [i]School Daze[/i] and the recent [i]Stomp the Yard[/i] have brought some mainstream attention to the dance.
