Linkin Park
Comment:
The sudden chart-crashing success of Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory (a.k.a. 2001's best-selling album) overlooks one key point about the group's Top 40 status: they toured tirelessly to get there, including more than 320 gigs in their first year on the road. As live versions of "Bleed It Out," "In the End," and "Numb" make abundantly clear, concerts are a major part of the Linkin Park experience, from the uncorked lightning-in-a-bottle lashings of Chester Bennington to the battle-ready rhymes of Mike Shinoda (see also: his hip-hop-heavy side project, Fort Minor). And then there are the songs that captured the duo's push-and-pull dynamic in the studio, including the catchy but caustic choruses of "Runaway" and "A Place For My Head," and the amped-up aggression of "Pts. Of. Athrty" (as remixed by Orgy frontman Jay Gordon).
