I first heard Billy Childish when I bought a Milkshakes compilation in '84. I thought surely this mixture of The Kinks & Link Wray without a trace of modern day punk influence couldn't possibly be contemporary. Had to be some forgotten beat combo from '65, right? Since then, he's become the single artist taking up the most cubic inches in my music collection (Miles Davis might actually have him beat though, some of those complete sessions boxes are hefty). By my estimation, he's rewritten "All Day & All Of The Night" a thousands times over as well as delving into delta blues, English folk, skiffle, woodblock printing & poetry.
