Who better to extol the virtues of California than Norway's Motorpsycho, who in "Go to California" sound as though they jumped through a time warp directly from 1967 into 2001? Long Beach Shortbus, born from the ashes of the Long Beach Dub Allstars, wafts up a dreamily paisley "California Grace" from their debut album. The Starland Vocal Band lifts a page from the Mamas and the Papas in their harmony-rich "California Day," and, finally, [i]American Idol[/i], er, legend William Hung throws out the rulebook — and the chord book — in true Biz Markie-meets-the Eagles style in "Hotel California."
