I put on "The Whole Night" by Ani DiFranco in the band room at the high school, and this girl, with flitty eyes, who plays guitar, asked me who it was, if she played guitar, and if she wrote her own songs. I was like, "ohhh, you don't KNOW?" I mean, I assumed she did. I think I might want to just make an all Ani DiFranco mix for her, see, but the desire to mix it up more than that was upon me, as those songs by rational, thoughtful guys (Jack Johnson, Modest Mouse, Dan Bern) have been rollin' around in my head.
So this is for Jessie, whom I've never really met. This was utterly utterly thrown together in a fit of getting a letter written to her -- in the form of a mix tape.
