The East Coast Music Awards were handed out February 18th and provided a great opportunity for those of us not from Atlantic Canada to hear what is happening with the music scene there. One thing you'll hear lots of - fiddles. And not in an Arcade Fire kind of way, but in a traditional Celtic, do a jig kind of way. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. Check out Natalie MacMaster if you don't believe me.

There's also some of the best Canadian rock coming out of the Atlantic provinces, what with Joel Plaskett (with or without the Emergency), In-Flight Safety, and hometown Halifax heroes, Sloan.

Jill Barber's voice makes us weak in the knees, George Canyon is as smooth as they come, and yes, they can rock the mic out East, as Classified is sure to show you.

So take a break from the Toronto-Montreal-Vancouver axis that dominates the Canadian music scene and hear what our friends from the East are doing to make the world a better place.
