Comment:

A sort of mix tape chain letter. I made this and sent it to a friend with instructions to vote on a winner in each of the 16 bouts, email me his choices, then send the tape on to another person with the same instructions and so on. Eventually, I hope to gather enough ballots to post the final winners. I tried to pick cover versions that were not simply reverential versions, but songs where the artists covering the song really made it their own. I also tried to make it so that they weren't all one-sided battles. Please play along and send your choices and opinions to me at crispinhglover@hotmail.com. After I get enough responses I will send out the final tallies.

This is a great idea. I fear that the Shangri-La's and Dolls would be a draw.

It's funny, I spent the whole day today listening to the Cat Power version of "I found a reason" on my discman and being all wistful and then came home and had to listen to the VU version over and over and I love them both in such different ways that I have trouble comparing them.

Point is, this is interesting. :)
