Comment:
There's a time in many a young man's life when he first discovers the Byrds. Maybe you were 19 or 20, first time living away from home, probably at a big state college. Leaves were falling and your heart would sink every time you'd see a new potential love. Maybe you bought little glasses like Roger McGuinn or grew your hair like Gene Clark. Maybe you wore a ridiculous shirt like David Crosby or a corduroy jacket like Michael Clarke. Who knows, perhaps you formed a band just to cover "I see you" or sat alone with your guitar singing "The Ballad of Easy Rider". And maybe it was as anachronistic of you to do these things 16 years ago as it is today, but you felt that you'd been born too late. OK, maybe this doesn't describe everyone's experience with the Byrds, but when I first heard them it was a real epiphany. The whole world looked a lot brighter. Kee-ripes, this all sounds like therapy.... Well, the Byrds are easily one of the greatest rock and roll bands ever. They spanned more styles than just about any other band - For that matter, they created styles. This comp might emphasize the country side a bit more than others would, but each song has great significance for me. The Byrds, man. Yeah.Feedback:
Your commentary reminded me of the scene in Fritz The Cat, where Fritz takes his guitar to Washington Square Park to pick up girls. He sits down, opens his case, looks around...and sees that everyone else has a guitar too! I bet Fritz would be into this mix as much as I am. Kudos!
GREAT comp, Sean. Kudos to you. I'm interested to hear what you have to say about "The mechanical sounds of the era"... although I think we may have talked about it...
yes, this very nice. thanks for reminding me how rock n roll ruined my life...
Great job--I love the Byrds.
stunning collection! this group is still underrated! they should have been as big as the beatles or stones! great job!
this is lovely! i actually like the byrds more than the beatles :) thanks for making this.
Wow, just fantastic, from one Byrds fan to another.
I used to smoke butter with Crosby back in the 1960's and I'll tell you one darned thang, Sean, he would feel your Byrds compilation was a mighty bit better than what the likes of Robby Conroy could come up with. And that's a compliment.
very nice!

Sean, I can really relate to your little essay on discovering the Byrds for the first time, I was 20, it was 17 years ago...and yes, they rocked my world in a profound way. This is a fantastic mix.
Really really nice,
The Byrds are one of my
