In 1955, rock 'n' roll had arrived. If there were any remaining doubts, the Pop chart spoke volumes as Bill Haley & The Comets hit the top with "Rock Around the Clock." Come to think of it, '55 was also the year that soul music arrived, as Brother Ray delivered the gospel from the pulpit to the jukebox with "I Got a Woman." Meanwhile, doo-wop had reached a sublime goodness, thanks to two of the finest cuts the genre would ever produce: the Penguins' "Earth Angel (Will You Be Mine)" and the Platters' "Only You (And You Alone)."
