By 1957, the raw elements that merged to form rock 'n' roll had refined, producing some of the music's finest moments. Doo-wop had gone from street-corner serenade to studio-session high art. And Elvis — well, if you ever wanted to [i]feel[/i] why Elvis is the King, look no further than "Jailhouse Rock," three minutes of preternatural menace and sexuality that just won't quit. Come to think of it, Jerry Lee Lewis wasn't doing so bad in that department either, teaching his keys a thing or two as he pounded out "Whole Lotta Shakin' Going On." And we simply can't forget two of doo-wop's all-time masterpieces: the Del-Vikings' "Come Go With Me" and the Diamonds' "Little Darlin'." The music plays on in our Next Steps . . .
