Comment:
Between American Bandstand on TV, Alan Freed's concerts at a theater near you, and flicks like The Girl Can't Help It exploding across silver screens nationwide, by 1958 rock 'n' roll wasn't only dangerous — it was ubiquitous. Thankfully, the quality matched the quantity. Take our favorite south-of-the-border grinder, "Tequila," by the Champs (a group that would later feature not only Glen Campbell but also Jim Seals and Dash Crofts). And when it came to cuts like "Great Balls of Fire," "Johnny B. Goode," and "Good Golly Miss Molly" the music had become possessed with some genuine hell-raising goodness.
