Comment:

[31] Meant For You [32] 'Til I Die.My first mix submission, inspired by[1] finding this site and[2] seeing the Brian Wilson Pet Sounds Tour a couple of weeks back.I'd been wanting to make this CD for a while but wasn't sure that what I wanted could fit on a single (80 minute) CD; anyway, after a few weeks of tweaking here it is.
The idea was to create a Beach Boys mix that omitted the 'fun in the sun' surf, cars & girls songs and go with the, ah, deeper stuff about life, affairs of the soul & girls. Of course there's still some silly nonsense songs in there too.

Some liberties have been taken which may offend some Beach Boys fans. For one, in the Pet Sounds section I have skipped Sloop John B - it always used to break the flow for me and, hey, it's my mix :)
I regard Smile as open territory and have tried to order tracks so that the H&V riff is not endlessly repeated. Again some 'obvious' tracks aren't there (Vegetables) and others have been edited (Wind Chimes starts with the Smile version but cuts to the Smiley Smile version).
Towards the end Can't Wait Too Long & With Me Tonight have been edited down to fit onto the CD. As ever, 'Til I Die finishes it off.

So, I hope people will forgive my changes and enjoy the mix.

Oh yeah... you may also want to check out my "Take that simple path and love will set you free" mix. We have *incredibly* similar tastes in Wilson-related product...

This looks great too! Sorry I've missed seeing your excellent mixes when they were originally posted. Interesting how Pet Sounds and the Mothers of Invention share the same typeface on their respective albums. I'm planning on doing a Beach Boys inspired mix in August with covers and bands that sound like the fab five.

Children..., men and women. Hear ye! This is one of the best cd mixes I've ever traded for. Simple as that. If you're fond of pop in pure genius form you've found your men: both the mix and the mixer! Brilliant..., and, ultimately--- sad. Worthy.

Hi Muzag - I am a fellow Beach Boy fanatic, and this looks wonderful. I saw B. Wilson do the same show in Philly a couple of years ago. Great show with a tight band. Wish he could sing like in 1966. From what I read Capitol records insisted that Sloop John be included on the Pet Sounds album just to have a hit, but it was not part of Wilson's vision for the album. I agree with you - cut it out. Would you want to trade for my Lights Out San Francisco?

Great mix! I posted a similar mix back in 2004 that would make a nice "Part 2" to this mix! ("Life After Pet Sounds" - Mix ID: 74405) Would love to trade if you are interested.
