Comment:
i have listened to squeeze about as long as i can remember. my parents were huge new wave kids and i adopted a superb record collection from them. i've gotten into a great deal of my parents' records, but none have had the staying power, for me, that the squeeze albums do. the melodies are just so pristine, those distinctly british lyrics always so heartfelt and amusing, and the musicianship always top notch. i actually saw squeeze with my parents when i was all of five years old [at madison square garden in 1989... apparently it was only about half full] but since then i have seen a recent version of the band play live [in 1999] and glenn tillbrook solo, twice. i really find him to be an inspiration. ANYWAYS... i made this compilation for my girlfriend, who had previously never heard squeeze before. these are just my personal favorite tillbrook compositions [there's a difford one or two in there as well] - i never really got into either of their biggest hits, "tempted" and "black coffee in bed" so they aren't included here. the songs here are mostly from their first couple records, as a lot of their later lp's contained some great tunes only to have them sullied by cheesy late 80s production qualities. i did try and choose a few good newer songs to indicate tillbrook's growth as a songwriter, but personally i'll always enjoy the "cool for cats," "argybargy" and "east side story" stuff the most. anyways...yes, a tribute to one of the finest, most underrated bands ever to grace us with their presence. rock.Feedback:
I am a HUGE Sqeeze, and especially Glenn Tilbrook, fan and I agree that they are very underrated. Great Mix!!
