Comment:

i wish i had the actual liner notes in front of me so i could quote verbatim, but the story goes a little something like this: i was having a particularly melancholy and lovesick fall/winter 1999, and in the midst of it all i thought it would be a great idea to put all of my favorite melancholy/wintery songs on one tape/cd for the listening pleasure of me and my friends. i started to work on it a little, but then i realized that i didn't want to contribute to anyone's seasonal affective disorder, so i waited for the following spring before i made it and distributed it to my friends. my mixes don't ever have a "title track" but this one does, simply because the song of the same name has the first line "the winter months/are always the hardest". when i heard that, i had a very schroeder-flipping-backwards-over-the-piano "THAT'S IT!!!" kind of moment. it's the best title i could think of, besides something painfully obvious like "kristen's melancholy companion to the colder weather."

Really nice, I hate the winter months too (that's why I moved to Australia! - although it does get cold here, it doesn't snow.)

Y'know what would've fit in perfectly at the end of this mix? Cadallaca's "Winter Storm '98" and XTC's "Snowman." My two favorite melancholy winter songs. Other thn athat, great great great mix.
