Comment:
Quite possibly my favorite mixtape ever--definitely the one that I am most proud of, technically. I mixed this 110-minute baby with two pitch-control CD players and a crappy Radio Shack mixer (so each side is pretty seamless, even with the mix of house/pop/big beat/breaks/trance tracks), and based it on the setlist I would have chosen if I had been asked to DJ a huge NYE party (with the "midnight" moment taking place during the giant breakdown in "Insomnia," near the end of Side 1--I have a very active imagination). Of course, I never got that dream DJ gig (though I had a great time that night, if I remember), but this tape made a hell of a workout mix for many months after. I thought I had lost this tape in a recent move, and just found it in a box in the attic. While I'd love to remake this in a tighter form on CD (I'd use different remixes for the Jennifer Lopez and Underworld tracks), I'm still glad to have rediscovered my little Maxell gem. Good times.(And don't give me any snobby crap about the Backstreet Boys track--it's meant to be a break before the massive closing tune, and you know it was the best pop song of 1999, hands down.)
Feedback:
nice story behind this one.
Absolultely f*ck*ng gorgeous mix of tunes -- Yaz, Stardust, Madonna, and Faithless no doubt make dancefloors happy! Don't lose the dream Max -- some of my best "club moments" occured right in my living room with an audience of one! Keep mixing!!!
great compilation. :)
