Comment:

a result of my usual taking to older women. scenario: me = delivery boy at awful williamsburg cafe. she = bartender at said cafe, last night on the job. me = reading book at bar, drinking wine. she = giving me wine and letting me read her book. me = in absolute love with said bartender. she = finds out that im a good ten years younger than she. me = oh well. not my first time in such a situation. so... months later, we run into each other on avenue a, echange numbers, and now a few months after THAT, we finally meet up tomorrow to trade mixtapes. excitment!

so you're throughly bored by the story, so if you're still with me, let me tell you about this mix. this is to make up for all of the mixes i've written nothing about.

i picked the police track to start this whole shebang because. well, my life has started with this song each morning for the past week. the record has just been sitting on my turntable, and me being too lazy to take it off, just hit the start button upon waking up. the air track because i pulled this fine disk out of the stacks to listen to on my way to lobby in albany on tuesday, and im all like whoa. killer album. califone because its just good and sweet and this dude who worked at the same cafe turned me onto them, although i always liked red red meat a bit in the first place. neko case because she sings country and does it well. fog because he can manage to put beats over boring pop music and make it not boring. jim o'rourke because he is good and this song reminds me a lot of that old edie brickelle ditty. ha. julie doiron because it flows nice and she is a great songwriter and im sure a great mom. dntel because as much as i dont get this whole IDM phenomenon, they make good music. and radiohead because its a nice segue and slightly resembles the dntel track.

side b begins with northampton because its like hiphop but its not because its instrumental and melodic. talking heads because they basically go on most of my mixes because this song is so beautiful. sluta leta because its cool electronix and its called CHAMPAGNE ON ICE. why WOULDNT i put it on a mixtape. billy mahonie because it sort of sounds like drum n bass, but it really isnt drum n bass at all. i mean, theres drums and bass, but its not drum n bass. hazey jane because its nick drake and i dont need to elaborate. the next track takes that acoustic stuff like nick drake and puts an electronic edge. the next two tracks because theyre all cut up beats. which leads nicely into the national skyline ballad which leads nicely into the starsailor ballad which leads nicely into the tapes concluding song that ends with the line "wish i could understand why i do this." and really, i wish i could understand why i do this. the end.
