Comment:
Another one pulled out of a plastic bag full o' tapes. This one went through a couple of themes before I rushed through the end of side 2. That's a habit I have, getting so excited to finish a mix that I rush the last few songs. Sometimes I regret it, but I don't think this turned out all that bad.Feedback:
My favourite Marilyn Monroe song (visually) is "My Heart Belongs To daddy". That 's due to the way she's dressed in the movie when she performs the tune.
Musically I like "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" the best.

By the way, the original recording of "Misrlou" was made by Dick Dale.Fabulous guitar player!
I believe Misirlou is actually based on a Traditional Turkish folk melody. I agree that Dale's version is definitely rocking. The Denny version I used came out in '60, a year before Dale's. A quick check on AMG reveals that Arthur Lyman, a former member of Denny's group, released the song in '58, so Denny was probably playing it before then as well.
Larz, I like those 2 Marilyn songs as well, but I think my fav lately has been "You'd Be Surprised." Of course, that could change the next time I listen to the disc, fickle fiend that I am!
Incidentally, Arthur Lyman just died last week. The publisher of a magazine I write for, Cool and Strange Music, emailed me the obituary last week. Kronos Quartet also did a version of "Misirlou" recently.
Oh, cool mix, btw.
Very nice. Now I'm longing to hear that Knack track. (Never thought I'd say that, but it reminds me of some good times in college playing that tune on my guitar at many parties with one of my roommates who used to bust out his harmonica for that one.)
ummmm...what's the deal with Mariah?
