Comment:

I got the new "Greatest Hits" and was thoroughly disappointed. So I decided to make my own. There are some that aren't on here, a few b-sides (Mr. Pink Eye, the exploding boy) that I don't have, and I tried to limit it to a song an album. Nicely enough, it flows chronologically! Track 1 I heard on the soundtrack to a movie called Times Square, possibly the best soundtrack ever. I wish it was on CD. Track 2 I heard first on a mix tape of all cure stuff, #4 is from the "concert" album, track #5 is the best cure song ever, well, it's in a 14-way tie, I think. I've mentioned it before, but #s 9, 10 & 11 is the best opening of any album, ever; 2 Late should have been an A-side, harold and joe was an understated standout next to the cacophonic Never Enough; a letter to elise subconsciously gave my 2nd daughter her middle name, Jupiter Crash has amazing lyrics, and Cut Here was the best song on the new G.H. album. Another Cure great.

Yeah, i have noticed that there are a lot of cure greatest hits cds, or cure compilations, but mostly they just have songs from wish and disintigration, two cds i have anyway. I would thoroughly enjoy a copy of this, if you were so inclined

I'm horrible about sending mixes, and this one needs an 80-minute disc. I think I have one more, tho, and I actually made this one for someone else as well, so send me your address and I'll get a copy out sometime, hopefully soon!

And yeah, the new greatest hits was supposedly hand-picked by Robert Smith as a career representative, and while I agree with lots of the picks, I've just heard them a million times. I wanted to make a fairly subjective but still career-spanning mix. Truth told, it should probably be a 2 or 3 disc set. I left off a lot of good stuff.

Fine stuff. Too bad about the most recent GH album, though. Maybe Bobby Smith is getting old and couldn't be bothered with it that much.

Thanks, Sue. Yeah, the biggest disappointment was the "acoustic hits" CD. Cool idea, they did all the songs that were on the GH disc, in order, acoustically. But they only did 2 takes of each song and picked the best. For my full opinion/bitchfest, see my review on amazon.com. He even said as much that the acoustic thing wasn't the best thing they've done. Oh well, I'm still (obviously) a huge fan. Like I said in my amazon review, just release the b-sides on CD, release the Unplugged they did (letter to elise is TOP on that) and go do the solo album....

Yes, I'd love to see their b-sides released on CD as well. My "Staring at the Sea" cassette (with all the b-sides) has worn down to mono. Let's have the Siouxsie and the Banshees' b-sides compiled while we're at it.

I had the SATS cassette and lost it, then paid for it again just for the b-sides. So, when napster was huge I downloaded "A Few Hours...", since I'd paid for it twice. ;) But why he continues to think we want umpteen live/reworked versions of the same (truly great) songs, I'll never know....
