Comment:
As a child of the '70s, classic rock is the music I grew up with, agonized over, searched out, collected, taped; its the sountrack of my life. But the same hits played over and over on the radio have gotten so stale that they have become the muzak of the millenium. If only I could punch the classic-rock station up on the way home tomorrow and hear one of these instead of "Carry on Wayward Son". I have included the year these songs were out as best I can remember, and I heard them all on the radio then. I havent actually made this exact tape, but I have a few similar mixes ive made over the years.Feedback:
You should listen to 95.1 WIIL, which broadcasts around the Wisconsin/Illinois border northwest of Chicago (thus the call letters, clever eh?). They play "This Beat Goes On / Switchin To Glide" every Friday at 5:00pm (or at least they used to). They also play "Since You Been Gone" all the time... Good call on the David Gilmour, although my favorite is "Murder".
Yeah! Bram T. and Rockpile were pretty great bands. I like the Gilmour song too.
The Kings rock.
If you think about it, when was the last time you heard Sign Of The Gypsy Queen? That Ram Jam track just slays me...
Oh yeah, Sign Of The Gypsy Queen would fit better.
My local rock station (QFM96 in Columbus OH) played most of these up to the early 90's..they played the Kings every Friday at 5 also..then they did a several-week long event where they played every song they had ever played A-Z...including crap like Styx "Babe", which they apologized for playing. Seems like after that, they cut back on alot of the good stuff like this.
You've proven the point that radio has only gotten more homogenized around the country. I remember going to Cedar Pointe and marveling at all the Michael Stanley Band 3/4-sleeve jerseys, years before "He Don't Love You" was a minor national hit. Now, what's playing in your town is what's playing in everyone else's town. And people actually think that radio will be better with XM and Sirius.
fond memories of robert tepper, msb, and zebra. i'd add david gilmour's 'blue light' or martin briley's 'salt in my tears'. cool mix! !
