Comment:

In a lot of ways, the Louvin Brothers' harmonies define the oft-invoked term "high lonesome" for me. Beautiful, spine-tingling, thoroughly creepy stuff all around. As much as I love these fellas, though, please remind me to *never* listen to their 8-CD Bear Family box set in one sitting (albeit in a slightly abbreviated manner) EVER AGAIN. lol Their career peaked on Disc 2... but they still had at least a couple of great moments through the last song they recorded together ("What Would You Give..."). God rest the reckless, troubled soul of Ira Louvin (he of the keening high harmonies and stellar mandolin), although I suppose he's rendered somewhat immortal (like being "kinda pregnant", I guess) just for co-writing "The Christian Life".

Whew! I may want to trade for this... Not that they deserve to be lumped in together, but as far as country singin' Brothers are concerned, I think I prefer the Stanleys. But that's more to praise the Stanleys than to denigrate the Louvins, who are fantastic in their own right.

I would like this Rob. Great work, showing once again the depth of your eclecticism, which us mere mortals are struggling to match. I have been absent of late, but shall return soon with a vengeance. I would like this, Rob. Please mail me when you have a minute.

Christian, schmristian....... Satan schmatan....... These guys are as deluded as any other religious "artist". The only good music is about the sinning life! What's next, a friggin' Amy Grant or Stryper comp?!? Oh Rob, you know I kid.... I should probably hear this soon, since I'm no doubt bound for hell.
